School Emergency Response System
Incident Command System
The school has an Incident Command System which assigns staff members to specific teams. Each team has a very detailed list of preparation tasks, a list of supplies, and a list of jobs to do during an emergency. Classroom teachers have an Emergency Procedures Handbook and coordinate with the Incident Commander.
Specific Safety Procedures are in place in case of:
Fire
Earthquake
Evacuation
Lockdown/Intruder Lockdown
Early Morning Emergency (before the school day begins)
Special Teams include: First Aid, Supplies and Equipment, Sweep and Rescue, Student Assembly, Traffic Control, Student Release, Building Safety and Security.
What Happens to Students in an Emergency?
Student Assembly and Supervision Team
All students will remain in the custodial care of school district staff (the Student Assembly Team) until they can be released to a parent or to an individual designated by the parent. No child will be allowed to leave with another person, even a relative or babysitter, unless the school has written permission to that effect or that particular person is listed on the student's emergency card in the school's files. This team will maintain order among students, assign runners, and monitor student release requests coming from the Student Release Team. They will also identify missing students as well as students present who are in need of First Aid services.
Student Release Team
The members of the Student Release Team will establish a Student Release Station at the school’s office or at the designated outside field location in the event of an evacuation of the building. The team will keep the completed Release Forms of each student released to parents or other authorized persons. All parents, or designated parties, who come for students, must sign them out at the office or temporary Student Release Station. The team will periodically update the Incident Command Center regarding the number of students remaining in the care of school staff.
