Art Day is a day for the whole community and a joyful way to play your part. We need parents to volunteer for the day of the event. Sign-up to support a class. You will help with supplies, clean-up, and have fun meeting your students' peers. Art Day cannot run without parents chipping in!
 
 
COOKING CLASSES
Whip Up Your Hummus

Embark on a culinary adventure and learn to whip up the Middle Eastern delight, hummus! Join us for an exciting cooking class where we'll dive into the world of flavors and transform humble chickpeas into a creamy, delectable hummus. We'll guide you through the preparation process, ensuring you master the art of this culinary gem. But that's not all! To unleash your creativity, we'll provide an array of condiments and side dishes, giving you the freedom to personalize your hummus masterpiece. Let your taste buds be the guide as you experiment with different flavor combinations. To inspire your culinary journey, we'll share a carefully curated YouTube video packed with tips and tricks. And to add a touch of friendly competition, we'll hold a vote at the end of the session to determine the most innovative hummus creation. Beyond the culinary experience, we're also seeking your interest in a student-led DEI club for the upcoming school year. Your participation will help shape a vibrant and inclusive school environment. So, grab your aprons, unleash your culinary prowess, and join us for an unforgettable hummus-making extravaganza!

Sushi & Fresh Spring Rolls
Learn how to make your own Sushi and fresh spring rolls! Start by seasoning the rice, then choose from a variety of ingredients including vegetables as well as some fish/shellfish ingredients as options. Next, learn how to form your sushi rolls and present them like a pro. Also, practice rolling your own fresh veggie spring rolls in rice paper. Finish them both off with some homemade sauces. (Allergens present, but optional to include in your dish: Fish, Shellfish, Soy, Sesame, Egg, Almond. We will have coconut aminos as a soy sauce alternative and keep fish/shellfish/almond ingredients separate from others.) Gluten Free, Dairy Free & Peanut Free.
 
No-Bake Desserts
Make a variety of no-bake desserts! Oreo Tiramisu, Orange Creamsicle Cheesecake & Berry and Ladyfinger Trifle. Ingredients include: Oreo Tiramisu (oreos, coffee, whipping cream, sugar, chocolate); Orange Creamsicle Cheesecake (shortbread cookies, butter, oranges, cream, sugar); Berry Trifle (cream, sugar, vanilla, ladyfinger cookies, berries). Allergen Note: Gluten free oreos, ladyfinger cookies & shortbread will be available, dairy-free whipping cream and butter available. This class has allergy friendly swaps and no nuts.
 
Pasta
Learn to make delicious home-made authentic Italian pasta with simple ingredients and easy technique, plus your favorite sauce. Pasta dough is made with just eggs and flour. Different rolling and shaping methods will be used. Sauces will be parmesan cheese with butter or tomato sauce.
 
Sushi Candy
Using a candy sushi recipe we will make adorable and tasty sushi look-alikes from Rice Krispies, gummy worms, and other pre-made candies!

MOVEMENT & DANCE CLASSES
Marshall Arts
Martial arts encompass a diverse range of codified practices and traditions developed for various purposes, including self-defense, physical fitness, mental discipline, and cultural expression. These systems of combat and defense have roots in different cultures around the world, each with its unique philosophy, techniques, and training methods.

Traditional Musical Instrument - Pipa

The Pipa is a traditional Chinese musical instrument with a history dating back over 2,000 years. It is a four-stringed lute with a pear-shaped body and is played by plucking the strings with a pick called a plectrum. The Pipa is often played in traditional Chinese music, including opera and folk music, and has a bright and lively sound. It is also used in contemporary music and can be heard in a variety of genres, including pop, rock, and jazz.

VISUAL ART CLASSES
Linoleum Block Printing
Create a pop art figure in the style of artist Keith Haring. You will then carve this design into a 4"x6" piece of soft linoleum. Using black ink, you will make up to 3 relief prints of your design. With ink and a brayer, you can use your block to make additional prints at home.
 
Cloud Watercolor Workshop
Hands-on session where we explore clouds, their significance, and watercolor techniques to depict them on paper.

Knitting (Fiber Arts)
Fiber arts such as knitting and crochet are practical, relaxing, and offer opportunities to experiment with color and texture in 3 dimensions. I have knit for over 20 years and would be happy to plan an event.
 
Chinese Style Drawing & Painting
Welcome to our 90-minute journey into the serene world of Chinese ink bamboo painting. In this introductory course, designed for art enthusiasts and curious learners alike, you'll immerse yourself in an age-old tradition that epitomizes Chinese culture's elegance and philosophical depth. Whether you're new to brush painting or looking to explore a different art form, this session promises to enrich your understanding and skills in this ancient art.

 
Santa Claus' Summer House
Interested in learning the architecture design process? We will go through a quick exercise starting with interviewing Santa Claus, the home owner, mapping the empathy map, defining the design program, creating a bubble diagram, and building a 3D model on a tree with consideration of the Sun, the climate, structure, and architectural style. Come and join 95min design workshop to explore if being an architect is what you want.
 
Henna
Make your own tattoo! Create a work of art on your hand/arm in the form of A henna tattoo. It is a temporary body art technique that involves drawing on the skin using a henna (plant)- based ink.
 
Glass Fusion (Session 1) & Anime Art (Sessions 2 & 3)
Create your own glass fusion masterpiece! We start with glass tiles and add colorful sprinkles, shapes and strings glued on top. The tiles are then fired in a kiln to melt and fuse the pieces, making a one of a kind piece of art.

Create your own anime portrait drawing! You will learn the art of anime, using color pencils and/or black marker with paint.
 
Zentangle
This is a very fun method of doodling! We will learn some easy patterns and then have the opportunity to make our own pictures.
 
Acrylic Painting
Use acrylic paints to create artwork on canvas, take home a finished piece of art. Acrylic paint can be used like oil paint in many ways.
